After much thought I am going to put one foot forward and  venture out into the world wide web of BLOGGING. I never really thought of myself as a "cook". Like most girls, cooking was something I enjoyed watching my mom do. Standing by her side watching her add ingredient after ingredient, chopping ,stirring, frying, boiling and simmering. And then after much longed wait the final product-a yummy fish curry or a delicious chicken curry. My favorite part of that was getting the emptied out dish-to lick the yummy goodness at the bottom!!!

When I got married, I realized the time, effort and love that goes into making these dishes. I returned to the U.S with a handwritten recipe book from my mom, which was a God send! I tried my hand in cooking, some dishes succeeded and some failed horribly. But that didn't discourage me or my poor husband ,who would eat anything I served with little to no complaints. Boy was I lucky!  And I still am.

Then I started calling my mom when I wanted to try something new and she would literally walk me through it from start to finish(thanks to Vonage). I would also look up recipes online, ask friends and family when I tried a dish I loved and tried to recreate it at home. Slowly but steadily I started getting better and more interested in the creativity of cooking. I may not be the best cook out there but this is what I grew up around and what I learned along the way.

Being from Kerala I always loved spicy food, so if you feel that in any of the recipes the heat level may be too much you can always adjust the quantity to your liking. But other than that the recipes are easy to follow and aren't time consuming. Being a mom of three, I like dishes that are a quick fix but have all the pizzazz and zing of Kerala cuisine.

So this blog- www.keralasugarandspice.blogspot.com is going to be a compilation of mostly Kerala recipes-veg/non-veg dishes and of course desserts for all you beginner cooks out there. These recipes are dishes that my husband and I love. And don't worry I have served them to family and friends too. You are not going to be the first!

Happy Cooking Everyone!
